XP Service Pack 2/New Comp question

Just finished building my new c2d set up, have a windows XP disk pre SP-2. If I connect to the internet with it, will I get wormed up? Should I transfer some protective programs from this laptop to my new computer before going online?
Thanks.

Yep, get SP2 installed (firewall activated) and some A/V software installed if possible before going online. Do you have a hardware firewall at all?

I'd recommend downloading sp2 on your laptop and burning it to a cd, then install it on your new build. I believe it's safer that way, and it is also faster I've found (although why I don't know). Also, next time you have to install xp on something, you have sp2 there and waiting.

Agree, do it now.

Better yet OP, slipstream SP2 with XP, then install.

If you do not have another computer, install AV, turn on firewall and goto Windows Update and have at it.
