I bought a SB X-Gamer 5.1 several months ago and I had to pack it away because of the resource hog it is under Win98. Now that I upgraded to XP, with its better memory handling, is there any hope for this sound card on a Via chipset KT266 board? 'Been using the onboard sound on this Shuttle AK31V20, if I switch back the the SB, should I use Creative drivers of the ones on the XP cd. Also, are there any drivers/programs that Creative bundle with their cards that should be avoided?

Use the drivers that are on the Windows Update, or the newest drivers from Creative. Also, make sure that the on-board sound is disabled. If there is a jumper for it, switch it to disabled too.

same here. SBLive! works fine in XP and FreeBSD for me. use the creative drivers for XP.
