XP Restart Problem

I've just installed XP Professional on an older system:

Tyan Trinity 400 (S1854)
Celeron 700
256 PC133
Nvidia Geforce2
Standard Keyboard (PS2)
MS Intellimouse Explorer (USB)

Runs fine enough for the wife except for one nagging problem. If I restart the system, the keyboard disappears when XP boots. However, if I shutdown (rather than a restart), and then turn the computer on -- coldstart it, everything is fine -- keyboard works.

Tried the latest VIA 4 in 1's, updated to SP1 -- everything I could think of -- and the problem is still there. Any ideas or fixes for me?

Thanks.

Have you tried a different keyboard? You might also want to take a good look at the plug, both on the KB cable and the MB. Make sure there are no bent pins, bad areas, etc. Try your KB on it first though. 😉

Thanks -- that was the problem. Funny thing is that the 'bad' keyboard works fine on my other XP box -- no lockups.

Hey, stranger things have happened. I once had a mouse that worked fine in two systems but wouldn't in the third. Glad you got it "fixed" though. Good Luck!
