Did a quick search and didn't see this question posted, so here goes. Microsoft says you are paying for the code not the software, because you can't own the software. I still have my code that I bought, but my disc shattered into pieces. Does anyone know if Microsoft will replace it for free if I have a valid code?

Why not call and ask? If they won't send you another, just make a copy from someone else (just make sure it's the same exact type). If it was an OEM preload, you'll probably have an uphill battle (having your shattered disc would help) dealing with your manufacturer, but if it was retail XP you really shouldn't have that hard a time.

They should replace the disc. You may have to pay the cost of shipping, however.
