xp repair hangs at "press any key to boot from cd"

roommates computer, just gave me info, havent touched it yet. Figured I would get a jump start cause i think i will have issues. A new mobo, original drive. It hangs at "press any key to boot from cd" and then the rom spins down, so a repair isnt even offered at this point. He has tried both ide cdrom and usb ext and had the same problem. has tried other HDs and can do clean installs with no problems. Its just this one HD that is causing issues. Any ideas? will have more info when i get home.

Possibly the keyboard isn't working? Try using a PS/2 keyboard instead of USB

Its not the keyboard (its ps2, either way). Its just this particular HD that is causing the problem. 2 other HD were able to accept both repairs and clean installs. Just one, very important HD, is causing the hang.

Have you tried using a repair utility from the drive's manufacturer?

Can you see the drive in the BIOS? Have you checked jumpers? What kind of drive are you having problems with?
