I use removable hard drives for video storage. My main drive with O/S is never removed. When I change a drive and boot the PC up, I lose my desktop wallpaper. PC seems to run fine. Funny thing is, when I reboot the machine at later times (same drives in place, nothing removed), the old wallpaper flashes for a second or two as PC/XP goes through the boot-up process. PC settles on the standard Windows desktop. If I reboot, it will do the same thing. Do I get two desktops? What's going on here?

Thanks in advance,

Greenwald

I just ran it through the sequence;

Boots to windows > Shows XP "Welcome" splash screen > Shows older wallpaper for about 5 sec (no desktop icons yet) > goes to default Windows blue desktop with Icons > blinks twice quickly but stays on Windows desktop

When I shut the machine off it also shows the same wallpaper durring the shut-off process.

Has my machine created multiple desktops? In explorer I don't see multiples. What is your take? Also, what do you think can be done to eliminate any problems (if any).
