Hmm. My sister's notebook started blue-screening at boot after she forced it off inappropriately, there is no Repair Installation option, and BootCfg can't rebuild the Boot.ini I deleted (oops). Before I install Windows XP over Windows XP, I wanted to copy her documents folder to a FAT drive to make sure it's OK. When I launch the Recovery Console, I can get to the commandline by leaving the Administrator password blank, but I can't access the Documents and Settings folder. cd \ (to root) then cd "Documents and Settings" just gives me "Access Denied."
If it truly is the Admin account, I don't know how it would not have List permission on that directory. Even so, half the reason for going there was to see he actual user folder's name so that I could use the same credentials for the new installation to ensure she still has access to her old files, but I can't do that. I have the password but, even if I could remember the display name, I still need to confirm the username (display name at welcome screen can be different than user name).
