XP Question

I'm in the process of building my first PC (I've always been a Mac man), and I've got all my hardware choices nailed down, so it's time to choose the OS. I've been to the Microsoft web page, but all I could find was a bunch of MS propoganda, which wasn't very helpful, and I've searched around this and other forums and online articles, but I couldn't find a good answer to my one basic question: What's the difference, to me as a user, between XP Home and XP Pro? I'm planning on using this system mostly for gaming, but I'll probably also use it for some graphics work (Photoshop and 3D stuff - of a hobbyist nature only), and perhaps eventually for some video editing. Everyone on the forums seems to use XP Pro, but never says why. Is the extra money justified, or will I be fine with XP Home? Are there certain things I CAN'T do with Home?

Also, I heard somewhere that the OEM versions of Windows XP that can be purchased at the various online stores sometimes don't work, as they're geared for a specific BIOS and won't work with custom builds. Is this true? I don't think I can afford a retail version, so OEM is about my only real option.

Thanks!

Well to me, the difference between the two is that when I installed home the first time, it crashed on the first boot (installing on a freshly formatted HDD). I formated it and installed pro. It?s been working perfectly for the last two months. ;)
