My Dell 8300 MB crashed. I removed the hard drives, CPU, etc and installed them on a Soyo MB (free after rebate). Windows starts and says I most activate. Internet activation fails, so I try activation by phone. I input the code Windows provided but the auto attendant says that this isn't recognized and go talk to the reseller.
I call Dell support (out of warranty of course) and tell them the problem. They are no help and suggest I contact MS. I tell them that MS told me to contact them. I explain that I know I'm no longer covered by warranty, but that the XP license should still be good. They say they will escalate, and I may, or may not get a call back.
Any advice?
