Every time I try, it tells me "System Restore was unable to create a restore point. Please restart your computer and run System Restore again."

MS KB has something about this same message for WinME, but the file it tells me to look for is not on my drive (yes, I know how to make this stupid thing look for hidden and system files).

Anyone have a clue why this is happening?

Nope, no virus. And the system file scanner detects no problem system files.

Maybe this is a little obvious, but I thought I would ask.
Do you have system restore turned on?

LOL, yeah, I have it turned on :)

I just got off the phone with MS support. They are stumped as well. They're trying to blame it on my Iwill SideRAID 100 card (HPT370) running RAID-0. Yet XP comes with native drivers for the HPT370. Go figure.

Is anyone here running XP on a HPT370 RAID-0 array able to create a system restore point?

I bet there is. If I know this, I can throw it in their faces.

I have the same problem.

My HD is on a HPT370 connector, but not set up for Raid.

I tried flashing back to a version of BIOS and HPT drivers that was

there last time I used restore (I've used it alot without problems.... till now, that is)

I'm still searching threads (bumping them, praying for a clue :/ )

(could the BIOS flashing process have pissed something off?)

I disabled system restore in XP Pro and reclaimed the HDD space it hogs up. I used it several times and it never restored properly leaving me to have to reinstall XP anyway. Would leave things there I wanted to get rid of even when I went back to day one.

Wow, this is old. I fixed it with a reinstall of XP last month. Don't know what caused it, and I haven't had any problems since.

BTW, the System Restore did work for me after a video card driver install was hosed when the power went out half way through. (thankfully I wasn't flashing a BIOS, huh?)
