a XP 266mhz cpu run at the same multiplier with 200mhz fsb? like if my mobo supports 1.3ghz (13x100MHz) max would it take a 1.7ghz (13x133MHZ) XP processor (i mean actual cpu freg.)

those would be cheaper and should i have the extra $60 - $70 one day i could run it at its full speed and get a double gain
and until then id enjoy a cool running undeclocked and pretty cheap cpu

is this possible?

the mobo shares bioses with the k7t turbo2 which does recognize those CPUs, could this help?

or is it just a stupid idea and im better off getting like a 1.2ghz Thunderbird?

thanks for any info

I agree, Update the BIOS and get a NEW Duron (1Ghz or higher)

If you need more speed then get a KT333 or KT400 board with some DDR Ram

 Nearly all KT133 can't handle the other internal changes the AthlonXP brought, so it's about more than simple FSB speed. A Duron 1.2ghz works in every SktA mobo I've heard of and they're pretty cheap too. If you buy an XP and run it at 100/200FSB you are unlikely to find it will work, random reboots and crashing are likely if it even POSTs. I'd suggest you either get a Duron 1.2ghz or save up for a new mobo and DDR etc. If cash is tight there are some SktA mobos which will take your current SDR (PC133 will work with AthlonXP's 133/266FSB) and still allow replacement with DDR at a later date. Any relativley new SktA mobo will support the faster if not fastest AthlonXP CPUs. IMHO the time for you to get a new mobo has come, save yourself a lot of headaches etc and dig deep in to those pockets!

EDIT: Just to add a link to MSI's site about your mobo, it looks as though a Duron 1.2ghz is your best bet unless you can find a good deal on a 100/200FSB Athlon as it supports up to a 1.4ghz one, very near AthlonXP1600+ perf. You could try emailing MSI and enquiring, but I doubt they'll bother to reply, if they do then let us know!
