XP Problems

Hello. I upgraded my computer from windows 98 SE to windows XP professional. After I did this, for some strange reason every time I went to use AOL Instant Messenger, the computer gave me an error message that said the program (AOL Instant Messenger) needed to be closed. The same problem occurs whenever I use Earthlink, but when I use Earthlink the computer tells me that it needs to send an error message to Microsoft. I can connect to the internet, however. If I go to Start, and then "Connect To," I am able to choose my Earthlink connection and it connects without using the Earthlink program. Also, my Kazaa opens up and connects fine, however, whenever I go to download anything, in the traffic section it automatically makes all of my downloads "queued." The first time I installed XP was about 3 months ago and these same problems happened. I just thought that it was my cd (the cd I used was burned). But now, I have purchased my own, retail cd from a store and the same problems occur. Any help, as to fixing these problems or maybe even just blocking these error messages is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I run a dual boot system on seperate partitions of the hard drive. Works better for me this way as I can go back and forth between systems. I did it this way to still have the usefulness of all my periferals untill new drivers are written for XP. I would sugest you get all the latest drivers for your hardware and all the latest updates for all your software by visiting the manufacturer's web sites.
good luck,
