xp problems: searches twice and ie wont open 2nd window

Using xp pro ver here.. whenever i do a search on a directory, it seems to search twice before completing..why is this?

Also in xp, ie6 doesnt want to open a 2nd window anymore, any link i click on that opens in another browser window fails, it opens the window partially, then fails. Any idea how to fix this other than reformat.

First try a cold reboot, if you havent already. Then do a virus scan. Been alot of that lately.
