I bought a prebuilt AMD 64 bit machine & purchased an OEM version of XP Pro x64 to put on it.

In general the machine works as advertised and does everything I bought it to do.

However my other home machine died completely. I'v tried to put the Webcam and Camera on my 64 bit machine for my spouse, but I've been completely unable to get them to install properly.

As best I can tell, neither device has 64 bit drivers available from the manufacturer (one is a Kodak device, the other a Dlink).

Also I've been unable to find any drivers at all on the Windows Update site, I'd think the downloads would be automatic from there but I've had no success to date.

Am I having a major brain glitch or are drivers simply not available for 64 bit systems yet?

I was actually hoping someone could point me at a link to a download of 64bit drivers for Windows XP

Camera is a Kodak DC3400

Kodak's website says they no longer support the camera as the drivers in Windows XP are equivalent to the last version they had put out.

Webcam is a DSB-C310 according to the install CD that came with it.

DLink's site no longer references the model.

I did buy a brand new Logitech Webcam and installed it with the same results I'd gotten with the older DLink shortly after I ran into the problem.

from what I've read, both software should run fine on XP Pro 64bit. Kodak sould not even need any software to be able to read the images and pull them off of it.

That's what I thought as well when I read the websites for the items in question.

However both items when plugged in run through the hardware install wizard, I let them go to windows update for drivers and they procede to the end where it tells me the hardware will not operate as some drivers were not loaded properly.

Also in device manager the items have the exclamation point indicating there are problems with them.

hmmm, since they do not differentiate between the two, you could try using the disks that came with them and see if it'll use them or not. if not, youmay hav to contact them directly and inquire about 64bit ones or ways to get them to work, because nothings listed about it in the faq's or manuals I can access.

Tried with the install disks initially since I wasn't sure if the drivers HAD to be 64 bit or not, but that got me nowhere, I kept getting 'this disk does not contain drivers for your hardware' messages.

I ran across the same problem you have in my searches through both company sites, no reference at all to 64 bit systems.

Wife wants a new machine to replace the one that fried anyway, I'll just make sure and NOT get a 64 bit system this time around.

Both devices are old enough that the companies involved may simply laugh and say 'Yer gonna have to buy new equipment before we talk to you.'

well, the 64bit system is better and that's what you'd have to run anyways if you get any new hardware.
