XP Pro, Vista 32, or 64 for my new rig?

Wow, that was easy!
So it will work with all my hardware and games and give best performance for games? Why are several senior members of this forum claiming to be downgrading their gaming rigs to XP because of new games running slowly on Vista 64?

I hear ya, I'm going through the exact same thing. You're making nearly the exact same setup as I am building. I am going to give Vista 64bit SP1. If games run bad I'll dual boot with XP, but I'm not anticipating going to dual boot.

Just ordered parts for a Vista 64 machine. Hoped some would show up today, but all I got was 4 gigs of 8500 ram, does have a cool little fan set-up with it though. But I will be keeping my XP machine intact, so I will have a back-up in case I run into any problems with programs, devices or my own stupidity.

I keep my machine in a dual-boot setup.

But... I haven't logged on to XP since January!

Even Crysis runs relatively smoothly and definitely playable on Very High, with only Shadows and Post Processing on medium.

This was true the first 6 to nine months that Vista was out due to poor drivers. Now benchmarks show (and my own personal experience) that Vista has performance parity to XP when it comes to gaming. This includes Vista 64.

Punkbuster and certain other forms of DRM made for XP may have some issues with Vista. This is because these do not use the best coding practices and are generally crappy software anyhoo.
