Right after I make a dialup connection, and then run ANY program that accesses the connection (mIRC, Outlook, IE) one of the svchost.exe services eats every bit of cpu going, typically 98%, for about 15 seconds and then all is fine. It doesnt appear to eat cpu when dialling in, but when the first program using the connection loads. It doesnt matter what the program is, just if it is the first one.

I'm certain it never used to do this, but cant think of a setting or installation around the time it started. Ran both Adaware and Spybot several times (with latest updates), and of course ran NAV scans.

I connect using a pci Eicon Diva ISDN TA, rest of specs in sig link. Any idea's whats happening? This is quite annoying as my ISP unmetered net package cuts me off every 2 hours.

I get the SAME identical thing!!! except it is sfconf.exe as soon as I log on, ICQ detects a connection and starts up, then my CPU usage goes straight to 99%, except mine doesnt stop after 15 seconds, I have to terminate the process :(

no, my process is:

sysconf.exe when I get online it immediately shoots straight up to 99% usage, I have to end the process to een move my mouse without stutter. :( and I have no viruses as reported by McAfee.

hmm i update my defs every other day, and scan once a week... Might run through that AVG scanner as ive wanted to see what its like and am not 100% confident of NAV.

anyway i seem to have sorted it by either uninstalling ICQ, turning off Zonealarm update check or redoing my Service tweaks that had undone themselves.
