XP Pro User Switching Stopped Working!

Hello ALL:

Hope someone has an answer to this. Seen mention of this before, but no solution yet.

I have XP Pro installed with 2 users. User Switching and Fast user switching was fine.

Now, all of a sudden, I can only log off the current user and log on to the other. If I try to SWITCH users then the welcom screen comes up, and when I select the other user, it goes Black with only the cursor (arrow) showing. NOTHING works at that point but to power off the system!

Terminal services are still running so I have no idea what could have changed!

I have had the same problem and posed it here without any results.

When mine does this if I select switch user the computer responds as if I did nothing. It will just stay logged on as current user. On the other hand if I log off instead it will go to the welcome screen and I can go to the other user. Also a reboot will solve this for a while. I have had this happen as many as a couple times a day. It has been over a week since this has happened. I can't see anything comon to this. I hope someone else has a fix for this.

I hope so as it used to work for me.

I may look for some of those "windows annoyances" sites and see what is there! I may even add a new user and see what happens!

I had fast user switching disappear completely after installing Cisco VPN client software. But in that case login/logout functionality reverted to the NT/2K style, with no "switch user" option and no Welcome screen.

The fix for my problem was to fire up regedit and delete the GinaDLL key underneath HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon.

Well, I do not see a GinaDLL. I also notice that Task Manager shows only the current user. Are ALL users supposed to be in the Task Manager's USER tab?
