XP Pro to XP Home?

Can you upgrade from XP Pro to Home. I have a used computer that apparently is not a valid copy of XP Pro. I want to know if I can upgrade from Pro to Home, so I can by a legit copy.
 
Doubtful, I've seen people have issues going from Home->Pro and I would imagine that going the other direction wouldn't work much better.
 
unforutnately the windows xp setup will not allow and upgrade from pro to home. the only way to do it is backup and full format and re-install
