I have just put together a system, my first one, it includes

Asus P5AD@-E Premium
P4 540 (3.2Ghz) With Thermaltake Jungle 512 Heatsink
Crucial CT12864AA53E DDR2 PC2-4200 ? CL=4 ? UNBUFFERED ? NON-ECC ? DDR2-533
2 WD 74 gig Raptors (want to run in a raid O)
ATI AIW X600PRO 256M
PLEXTOR|PPX-712SA/SW
Sony DRU 710A Dbl Layer DVD-RW

My problem is.... when I go to install windows XP Pro SP2, it gets to installing devices and just locks up for about 5 min and reboots and the same process happens over and over. This is what I have tried so far.....

Resetting the heat sink (Temperatures are about 48C which I hear is hot) I also tried the stock fan that came w/ the CPU. Temperature never changes.

Tried Silicon image raid drivers (I get a stop error) and ICH6R Intel Raid Driver (Locks up and reboots). I have also tried each hard drive seperate in an IDE congiguration and same symptoms still prevail.

Memory registers in BIOS as well as Video Card.

One more thing, my MOBO also has 4 SATA Connections and 4 SATA RAID connections. I have tried in both of those also the SATA RAID connections are the ones when the stop error occurs.

The MOBO is also supposed to configure voltages automatically, however, if I had to change them manually, I dont know what to set them at. The manual for the mobo does not mention the settings and even though I had purchased a retail CPU, there is no manual included.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am excited to see what this thing can do.

Thanks again, Squiggy774

48C isn't really that bad as it made out to be.

Have you try running http://www.memtest86.com/ checks to make sure the RAM is good and have no defects to them. The program loops over and over and never stops. If it shows any, RMA the RAM.

Good luck in solving the problem and welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the advice, I had run memtest, and everything had passed, however in the length of time it had taken, I noticed that my video card was very hot. I had pulled out the card and discovered that the spring loaded pin holding the fan to the GPU was missing and the fan is not snug against the chip, I know this needs to be fixed, however, would this be creating my original problem of constant rebooting? Thanks

:( Well I have replaced the video card and the temp seems to be alright. I have tried 3 different hard drives. Reset the processor and checked the thermal paste (Temp holds steady at 47C or 117F. I have also tried two different optical drives. I have also updated the Bios to the newest version. I am not sure what else to try. The MOBO, Asus p5ad2-e premium, has a jumper free configuration, so I dont know if that would be the problem. Any other ideas for me to try? Sometimes I can get as far in the instalation as to enter the Product key and to set the time zone. Never made it past the time zone setting though.
