Hello,

I am having major problems with one of my comps. It won't boot. It takes 20mins + to get to the xp screen and then just as it looks like its loading into windows it says lsass.exe unable to load component. "This application has failed to start because samsrl.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. Scandisk had fun trying to fix it. It found 18000 file segment unreadable errors but seemed to still fix the files, spent 1hr doing it but still doesn't work. Windows won't boot into safe mode, first time i tried it got the the drivers file and just switched it self off. Its extremely important that none of the files on here are deleted. Its a full 200gb hard disk which i want to keep lol. Ive tried doing a repair but there is no option for it on xp cd it just says setup xp now and recovery console. I did setup xp and it doesn't say anything about reparing. The computer specs are below

HP Pavilion 7945
Intel Pentium 4 1.5ghz
512mb sd ram
128mb Geforce fx 5600 ultra
Creative Soundblaster Augiy 2 ZS
LG DVD Rewriter
Hitachi DVD Rom Drive
Intel mobo (Not sure though)
Intel i845 chipeset i think
Maxtor 200gb IDE Hard Drve

And Thats about it

Appreciate any help

Many Thanks

Ben

If the files on the disk are that important, you could remove the HDD and set it up as a slave on another computer. You would then be able to browse your HDD and copy the files you needed, then you would be able to do a format and reinstall windows

Hello

Thanks for that and should work. one question lol. Im quite a noob when it comes to hardware and i was wondering how i would set it up as a slave as my other computer has sata drives. Would i need drivers? Any extra cables. The computer i would connect it to has an asus sk8v motherboard

Thanks

Ben

there are some jumpers on the drive (normally between the power connector and the data connector) - there's normally some indication on the drive label about which position is slave/master/cable select.

however, if the other drives are sata, and there's no other devices on the same cable (eg cdrom) then it doesn't matter about the master/slave setting. the boot device priority is set in the bios but for a quick solution, install the drive and press F8 during POST and you will be able to select which drive you wish to boot from (in the case of the sata drives you select the controller/device (i.e VIA VT8237)
