XP Pro SP-1, hangs on Mup.sys during bootup

I noticed during a normal bootup, the PC would hang with the HD LED on.
I did a safe mode bootup and it stops while loading Mup.sys

The PC:
Abit KX7-333
AMD Duron 1800
512MB PC2100 DDR
Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 w/ 256MB
Creative Live 5.1
Linksys LNE100TX NIC

The only thing I did was swap the CPU from an Athlon XP2100+ to the Duron 1800. I had some issues with even getting a POST screen, I found that if I pulled off 2 sticks of RAM (I had 1GB from a 256, 256, and 512 sticks) and left only the 512, the PC would boot. If I left one of the 256s w/ the 512, it'd hang sooner when loading Mup.sys

The XP2100+ seemed to have either burned out or it was damaged when I was swapping HSFs. Either way, it was a power hungry dinosaur that ran very hot and gave me problems over the summer. BUt now I'd be happy just being able to use the damn PC.

Any ideas?
