XP pro , reinstall with dell cd

howdy all , well got my new beast all up and running , and figured what teh heck lets see if i can get the old machine running just to surf the web and whatnot
here is my problem

i formated the 30 gig drive on my old HP 1.2 althon , using a dell reinstall CD
everythign seemed to go fine, until i need to register my product key , it say the key is invalid , but how can this be its the same key i had on the cpu from b4 , ony thing i did different is use the Dell reinstall CD

now im starting to wonder if Dell has something imbedded on the CD so that it has to use a Dell Product key if there is such a thing ?

i broke my original xp pro cd i had , and picked up the dell replacement for 5 bucks

is there anything i should try or can do?

please LMK

thanks

k well i did some reading and came up with a pinch more info , my old product key i believe was a corp cd key, im really starting to think that this is the root of my problem,.

my guess of the fix is to do a reinstall without using the dell cd, i would have to bring my cpu to a friends house as he was the one who installed it from work.
but please tell me if my thinking is correct as i would rather not reinstall windows again it didnt go to well the first time took me 4 tries

thanks again

This would be incorrect.

The dell CD is using a normal version of XP. The CD keys for corporate will not work with this version of XP (Regardless of what OEM has there name on the disk). You need to reinstall with a corporate version of the OS and then your key should work fine.

EDIT: Should really learn to use the preview button.

hehe preview button , hmmm you may have something there 😉

thank you for the help ,

YIPPIE install windows again lol
