XP Pro Question

I am currnetly running xp pro and am planning to upgrade my pc soon. I will be putting in a new mobo, cpu, ram, and video card. I have read that if you change too many components at once, xp will not let you boot up because it thinks the hard drive is being moved to a different machine. Is this true and should I expect any problems? Thanks.

Not true. First off though, I'd recommend you do a fresh install of the OS. XP can be a Pain when it comes to switching MB's and frequently will fail to boot because of that. However, what happens after a fresh load, XP will "detect" the different hardware and when you try to "Activate" the OS (you have 30 days to do this), you will not be able to do it over the internet. You will have to call the number (that will be given to you on the screen) for MS and tell them that you have upgraded your machine. They will ask a couple of basic questions and then give you an activation code. Pretty simple really and it is an 800 number. Takes about 5 minutes is all.
