XP Pro on external hard drive

Ok, here's my problem. I currently have XP Home SP2 installed on my normal internal hard drive. I installed XP Pro on an external hard drive that was recognized by the XP install program, and it seemed to go well. However, when I start to load XP Pro, it shows the boot loader for about a second, then I get a blue screen without many details. The same happens when I try safe mode. I've reached a dead end.

Oh ya, the reason: I'm using a SFF PC case, and I'm trying to reduce heat. I had an external HD already, so I figured why not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

*EDIT*
Oops...to quote http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/usb-boot.mspx:

"Current versions of Windows should not be installed to USB hard disk drives because Windows does not support USB hard disk drives as the primary boot device."

Anyone know of any workarounds?
