XP Pro logon issue

We have a Windows 2000 domain. We also have an AS/400 server that our main database is on. We need to have the workstations (XP Pro) map a drive to the as400 for an imaging application. The drive was mapped by right clicking on My Net Places, selecting map drive. I put in the drive, path and selected connect using a different username. When I initally do this i put in the user on the 400 server and the password. It connects. When the machine is restarted, it sais failed to connect. When I reconnect it, it has the domain\user style login, not username - password. If i type in the login, it will connect. Is there a reg hack that willl not put the domain info infront of the login?
