XP PRO Installation does not like me.....:(

Hey there,

Well here is the situation. I have a system that will not install XP PRO.

I have these hardware components.

AMD Athlon 900 200FSB
256MB Pc 100 Corsair
ASUS V7100 AGP 32 Mb Geforce 2 MX TV out only
MSI K7T-Turbo (Original ) Bios version 3.2
Maxi Sound Muse
Diamond SupraMax V.92 56K
Quantum 40 Gb ATA 100
Sony 1.44 Floppy
Affrey (Generic) 50X
Plexwriter 40/12/40

If I try and boot it gets a "CD-ROM BOOT ........failure."
So I try the installation in WIN 98SE for an upgrade.
It gets past the looking at hardware and does the report,
it then goes through setting up the installation AND THEN.....
starts copying the system files. This is where everything goes to pot.
It then tells me that certain files cannot be copied.

These are the things I have tried.

1) Switching the Generic out completely and setting the
Plexwriter to master and trying to boot off of it or upgrade from WIN 98SE.
NO PROGRESS.
2) I have tried switching out my RAM....no luck
3) I even did a trial on a friends comp. with this CD (NO ACTIVATION WAS DONE)
and the installation went fine and everything worked.

I guess my only question is what would keep the CD from being able to
boot and what would cause the CD to not be able to copy certain files ??

I have been trying to get this working for several months now.

NEED SOME LIFE SAVING HELP PLEASE

i ran into something just like this recently, i have been upgrading my friends comp and we decided to keep his current cd drive and hard drive and 8 gig. anywho, whenever i tried installing windows using that cd drive it would say that it could not copy some file or that some file was corrupted and such... i wind up taking his comp back to my place where the only thing i change out is the cd for mine and it installs smootly.

my two suggestions are to see if your friend would lend you his cd drive and second to check/change out your ide cable may be the old ata 33 cable and not the ata 100 cable.

Hey there,

In you reply PD you said you tried another CD. Do you mean another CD as in (Another copy of XP) or another CD-rom ??
I will try that. I will say though that I tried my generic first then my Plexwriter to no avail. I have an OLD Compaq
so it looks like I may be using some spare parts 🙂 .

Got any other clues anyone ??

yeah, i meant cd drive. and i saw that you had used two different cd drives, that is why i suggested checking the cable.

When I have had trouble with a Install I have used XP Boot disks to install needed drivers and then the rest seems to go pretty easy. Might be worth a try.🙂

boot disk

Hope it helps.😉
