XP Pro desktop icons and other little things

I have my desktop icons hidden, and on my taskbar (as a toolbar). The My Documents and network places icons always come back after I reboot... any idea on why???

Anyone know where the setting to not have explorer expand the folders when you click on them?

AND finally, anyway to customize the login screen?
