XP Pro default settings at boot prior to loading HKCU?

Anyone know what power settings etc are used by Windows XP after booting a workstation and prior to logging in? More importantly is there a way to modify these default settings? I assume there is since OEMs like Dell and HP can change them to suit their needs.

I don't believe power settings are HKCU. I'm pretty sure they are HKLM.

There are some in there but they are over ridden by the settings contained in HKCU which come from the default user profile or the exisiting users HKCU. I can fix it for new users by customizing the default user profile per KB305709.

ah. k...

Get things the way you want, log on as a different administrator (can't copy while source or destination are open), copy the customized user profile over via System Properties | advanced | Userprofiles Settings to the default user.

If you are dealing with post-SP2 and syspreping an image, simply set the administrator account the way you want prior to the sysprep. It will copy things over to default user during sysprep and setup.

If you are dealing with pre-SP2 XP machines you gotta get admin set the way you want and manually copy it over to default user per my first paragraph above.

That help?

Thanks but no. That is what is in the KB I cited in my response and I am already doing that to customize my default user profile. What I am trying to figure out is what is loaded at boot time before any user logs in and how to customize that.
