XP Pro Corporate: Can I use the product key update tool to put an OEM code on?

Ok, so I pirated windows, but I've decided to get a legal version. What I need to know is if I can update the code on my already installed corporate version to a legal OEM code.

Help?

is it the same pro version

Uhhh, what I have installed is XP Pro Corporate. What I am going to get a key for is XP Pro OEM. So, they are the same version (as in SP) but not licensing.

Just do yourself a favor and reformat. You're using an illegal copy, remove it first before you try to install the legal one.

No - this will NOT work between different types of media. The commonly warez'd version that does not require activation is the Corporate Edition, whereas the OEM version is different media set and requires activation.

No you will need the OEM media and need to do a repair install using the valid (OEM) key.

Bingo! This is an easy process - just pop in the OEM CD, reboot and do a repair install, and you have a legit xP install with your legit key.

I've done this before, does it cause any performance/stability problems?
