XP Pro and Soundlaster live value....problem with Mic and Line In

I'm having problems with XP and my soundcard, is there a way to tell if it's the soundcard or the operating system? I'm not able to record with the mike in any program, Mike is not muted as far as I can tell, having the same problem with the Line in jack, have already updated drivers to latest avail from creative to no avail.....any ideas?? TIA

Have you made sure the mic and line in aren't muted in the SB mixer?
