I just upgrated my 1st comp and I can't get my old Win 98 SE to see my new XP Pro. Can you give me some things to check? I have them on a lan via a switch. They were networking fine when I unplugged prior to upgrade but now NOTHING!
Thanks!

You tried pinging the other machine? You sure you have assigned an IP address to the WinXP box?

Define "can't get to the XP Pro". I assume you mean that you have a share on the XP system you are trying to get to on the 98 system. You can ping, that's a good start. Bring up a DOS prompt and type "net view \\{manchine name}" and tell us if you get a response that way.

Same Workgroup?

Can the XP box see Win98 SE box?

You have to enable sharing of a drive or folder on the XP box.

Log to the following page.

Scroll down, in the middle (yellow hi-lited) you will find info, and links to solve sharing problems.

1) Yes, same workgroup
2) No
3) I have shared folders on both machines.

I tried the new view \\machine name and got 'System error 53 has occured. The network path was not found."

Try to share both drives C: in general (not just folders) using WinXP Simple file sharing.

If it still does not work, install NetBEUI on both machine, and make it deafualt sharing protocol on both computers.
