XP Pro: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem problem

C:\DOCUME~1\Lunarcade\LOCALS~1\Temp\. A temporary file needed for initialization could not be created or could not be written to. Make sure that the directory path exists, and disk space is available.

I get this at the end of an uninstall using installwizard, also when trying to use DOS program rar32. Directory exists and there is plenty of disk space, Windows programs use the user's temp directory regularly. Can anyone help? Thanks!
 
just a hunch, but maybe the path is too "deep" for a dos program... try making a simple directory like c:\junk and extract it in here...
 
The "DOS" is Win2k/XP is not real DOS. Its a EMULATED DOS enviroment.(the entire 16-bit subsystem is emulated as well) Not all DOS programs will work correctly with it. If a program refuses to work correctly with it there is really nothing you can do to fix it.


As for the other issue you may consider cleaing out the TEMP directory.
 
Ok, allow me to explain a little better, I am getting this error running command.com (not cmd.exe), edit.com, and many other very basic programs, rar32.exe was only an example. I have cleaned out my temp directory, checked all permissions. However, I just noticed that I don't get the error running as administrator, what security settings would cause this to happen?
