XP Pro 137GB hd limit problems

I have XP Pro corp. editon w/out any service packs on the cd. Trying to install windows on 2 250gb maxtors in raid 0. My computer locks when it say "setup is starting windows". Of course I install the NV raid drivers and everything by hitting F6. My 2 80gb samsungs installed XP fine while in raid 0 till one of them died the other day.

I'm sending one of the maxtors back to newegg in exchange for 2 120gb seagate 7200.7 sata drives. I figured maybe these would install XP while in raid 0 because they're below the 137gb limit.

Someone said to make a slipstreamed SP2 disc.....tried it but it keeps giving me an error when trying to copy one of the files. I know SP2 is supposed to fix the drive size limit but does this also apply to the installation of windows. (will it see large drives for the install?)

Has anyone installed windows xp on 2 large hard drives while running in raid 0??

Haven't been able to find much help on the net..... thanks

Tried it with sp1, didn't work.....same thing. maybe it still wasn't fixed for the install, I know it fixes it once windows is up and running though.

Corp edition? Hopefully you arent trying to use FCKGW. 😛

1) Make a 10GB c: partition, install the OS, then load SP2. You can then partition and format the rest of the drive as d:. Partition magic can then merge the partitions if you aren't a fan of dual partitions.

Personally I always like having a 10GB c: for the OS and the d: for everything else. This is also useful when it comes time to do a clean install on the c: drive. Your backups will be intact on the 2nd partition.

2) Get a slipstreamed XP cd w/ SP2. You can do it yourself with Autostreamer (google it).

Please keep in mind that 2x120GB in raid0 still equals 240GB. You would need 2x60GB drives. 😛

wow, i didn't realize it was THAT well known. i don't use it anymore, but at one time, it was used on about 10 computers here. not anymore though. we are totally legit. like the corleone family.

I just hope that if you are using an illegal copy, with all the money you spent on your rig I would think that you would be able to afford a legit copy.

why run raid 0? At least 0+1. I havn't poured over AT in a while, but is the performance that much better that you double your risk of failure? Maybe you own a tape drive and back up religiously?

It's legal

I have 2 120GB seagate's coming and if they don't do raid 0 either then I quit. You're right about raid 0 and the risk of failure. After my last raid array crashed after 4 months I'm starting to think it's not worth it. Oh well I guess I'll see what happens.....

Yeah, I found all their max blaster software and other stuff but it locks up the computer when I try to run it before xp startup. I'm sure it's got something to do with the raid 0 array. I does work ok in windows though.

I also have a copy of XP Pro w/SP1 on that I got from CTU online when I was taking classes there. They may have sent it to me for free but of course in the end it wasn't. 😉

so how do you have a corp version of XP that's legal. This a work PC that is included under the VLA?

I guess it's not corp edition. My mistake. Sorry....

I would use my disc with SP1 but microsoft says the cd key has already been used(it IS the original disc). Well no $hit, thats what happens when you install windows.....why was I only able to use that key once?? What a bunch of crap!

Anyway, decided to scrap the raid 0 plans and just put windows on 1 drive.
Thanks for the help.
