XP Ppro and registration

A friend keeps insisting that the XP Professional version doesn't have the registration process that the home version does and doesn't keep track of your system hardware at all, is this true?

that's the XP Pro Corporate edition...unless he got it somehow through work it's a pirated copy (and even if he did get it through work, he's not supposed to be installing it at home!)

hehe 🙂

If you'r company obtained XP through some sort of volume licencing then you dont need to reactivate it.

Although, its worth remembering, activating and registering are two different things.

I installed XP pro last night, and it DOES have the activation icon waiting for me to register.

It is there in the versions you can buy at the stores.

Ok thanks for clearing that up guys. He downloaded Pro from a warez site and then went on to tell me that the retail version of Pro in stores doesn't have activation either.

To clear things up...your friend is retarded! There are three versions, XP Home, Pro and Pro (Corporate). Pro (Coporate) is NO different than the retail version. The only difference is that the coporate version doesn't need to be activated. The retail version of Pro DOES need to be activated. Tell your software stealing friend to BUY XP Pro and he'll find out. 🙂
