XP powering down my modem

Well, that's what I'm guessing anyway.
I have an internal PCI ADSL modem and when I am away from my computer for a long period of time it takes 30 seconds or so to load the first web page and then is fine.
While I am not using my computer apps such as Trillian seem to be disconnected and then connect again once I use the PC.

It seems a little strange that XP does this, especially with a PCI modem, but I have tried it with 2000 and it is fine. The problem only seems to exist on XP.

Anyone have any thoughts on this, preferably how to stop it?

If you go into properties for the modem, there should be a tab called "Power Management." In that tab there should be a checkbox, for "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power." uncheck that box and hopefully your problem will be solved.
