XP on a slow machine?

I was planning on upgrading to XP sometime but was curious if it will run on my machine. I have a P2-300 I wasn't planning on upgrading till Christmas time. If I say turn off all the fancy stuff will I get a respectable speed?

What amount of ram do you have? W2K needs around 256 to run well and XP would need the same.

I think you will need to turn off the visual goodies to make your machine a little less stressed.

Agreed, memory is the most important issue here. Your cpu seems to be decent enough for general system operation. If it doesn't have at least 128megs minimum, then forget it.

I would hate to run XP on 128MB even (unless you switched off ALL the fancy new features/GUI).

i run it on p2 350 with 256ram and a 4gig hdd(oldest i have)
it performs ok if you get rid of all fancy stuff(mine after
loading takes 39MB RAM)

so, you should do ok, especially if you have a faster hdd than mine.
