XP not recognizing another ram stick?

I just added another 512 MB of ram to my machine, but my XP install doesn't recognize it and still lists my machine as having 512 mb of ram. Do I have to re-install XP to get it to see the other stick?

no, you don't - there is most likely something wrong with the slot, or the new memory stick, or it isn't seated properly. Try booting with only the new stick of ram, swapping slots, and see if you can find any combinations that won't boot at all - that will help you figure out if you have a bad piece of hardware.

okay it worked now...had to knock down the speed to DDR333 though...gonna go back and play with it a bit.

Whats a good program for testing memory to make sure this will be a stable config? I have two different types of ram and I want to make sure the combo will be stable.

if it's all pc3200, it should be okay - see if you can relax ALL the timings as far as possible, and if it works then. Hopefully it will and you can start tightening them up again until you find what works.
