XP- no video after flash screen, again

my config\system file got corrupted randomly (common xp error F**kng POS)
after doing step 3 of 4 outlined at microsoft.com to fix it, after
the flash screen there was no video, just a blank screen,

so I went into boot mode, removed the drivers and installed the generic one.
reboot, same thing- but won't boot into safe mode now as well.

I've had this problem before, never known how to get
around it (another reason I hate microsoft) other than to wipe the entire drive and
do a reinstall.

I installed XP into another folder on the drive, same darn problem, but I CAN get into
safe mode for some reason on that install, after I disabled plug n play in the bios (found that suggestion through google)

I have a separate install of xp on another drive, the slave which is now disconnected, it works fine.

how do I get this D&&&N program to work? any gurus out there?

There is a patch released by Microsoft to fix this issue. I can't find a link right now but you should update your computer patches before installing any software (with the exception of AntiVirus).

Either that or your CD is damaged, I had this problem once with a WinXP Pro disk.

my cd is not damaged, this is a pure MS problem-

note, I installed all the patches, except SP1, in safe mode, and can now
access the new install.

However, there is no way to install the patches in the old install since I can't get in into
safe mode, sigh.

When MS crashed, I was not installing, and had not recently installed, anything.

sick of this xp crap, my burning hatred of microsoft only continues to grow.

well, nothing seems to work and can't find anything at the net, reinstalling all programs on the
2nd install of xp, someone let me know if they find a way around this, it's wasted
far too much of my time

If MS doesn't have a patch to fix this, as PorBleemo mentioned, I don't know how you could prevent it from repeating.

But if a corrupt registry is what this is, then you could make a copy of the registry files periodically, several generations deep. Then when it happens again, you could copy them back, and have a working system fairly fast. Since you have another install of XP, it should not be hard. Make the copies from the second install, and restore from there when needed.

If that is not enough, you could make a complete copy of the Windows directory.

How often has this happen to you? It hasn't happen to me, and it does not seem to be much mentioned on this forum.
