Running two installs of Windows XP Pro in a Netware 5.1 Pure IP Network via the public release of the Novell XP beta client.

One install is a 2000 Professional upgrade, the other is a clean install from scratch.

BOTH INSTALLS TRANSFER FILES EXTREMELY SLOWLY FROM NETWARE SERVERS. Slow meaning a 200MB file takes about an hour. **Transferring the same files to a Win95 station completes rather quickly w/out a noticeable performance hit** This variation leads me to believe it is more a client than server issue, but I'm not ruling anything out.

Note that this only pertains to a few files on the server, not all of them. These files are not compressed, encrypted or unusual in size.

I've massaged the cache, paging, RAM, GUI, searching, indexing, protocol filters, naming orders... and just about everything listed on the tweak site: SpeedTrap and I've disabled client side file caching at the server and the client.

I realize this is a new OS and a Beta Netware Client but I'm surprised at the incredible performance hit.

Anyone out there have similar experiences or disimilar experiences with suggestions that I might consider?

Thanks in Advance!

Have you tried turning off file caching in the netware client itself?
This often leads to crappy transfer speeds if not configured correctly on the server and workstation..

Go under the advanced tab, find the "file caching" option and turn it off.
Reboot and retry!

Don't know what to tell ya, guy at work has XP Pro with the beta client and it's fine to all the servers. We have servers ranging from NetWare 3.11 up to 5.1 too.

The final Windows XP compatible client is now out at Novell.com.
Grab it and give it a whirl, remember...if you dont use NDPS or the Application Launcher to run programs, you can run the native WindowsXP NDS aware client.
Much faster and not so much of a hassle.
