XP .net beta Server and Adprep.exe in a 2k Forest.

Hello.
I am working on a problem in our lab and attempting to modify an exsisting 2k schema to accept a .net Domain Controller.

I cannot Dcpromo the .net server untill the schema has been modified.
I can only modify the schema from an exsisting DC (all 2k).
I have tried copying over adprep.exe and schupd.exe (not sure if I got the last file name right, hopefully you know what I mean)from the .net server to a 2k DC and running them from there, but I get an error that an attached device is not available. The network is solid and there are no DNS, TCP/IP , or hardware issues.

There is literally nothing about this in the KB's that I could find, I suppose becuase it is still a beta product. Does anyone have any ideas?

you would have to change the schema in the already functioning Win2k DC's, which always a good idea, but if its only one change, you can take a weekend to replicate the schema and GC to all the other DC's and then promote the .net server there.

might not be worth the trouble though.

Loosbrew: Thanks for trying. If you read my question , you will see I realize all the things you said. I don't need to know what to do, becuase I know what I need to do and the theory behind it. What I need to know is HOW it's done. That's a tricky issue.

I worked on it some more today, and as of now, I am convinced it cannot be done. If anyone out there has had success adding the .net beta server as a DC to an exsisting 2k forest I would appreciate the input.

I expect they will have a solution to this by the time it is released. They will have to if they want anyone to buy it.
