XP My Computer + Recycle Bin icon/text resetting to default - why?

for some reason the my computer and recycle bin icons in win XP won't retain the custom icon and text name that i give them anymore -- they reset back to defaults after every reboot or logout. is it perhaps a profiles thing?

both times this has happened, it happened after i installed a 5x.xx nvidia display driver. is that involved? any idea how to fix this? i hate those icons.

i tried the newest nvidia drivers from today and the problem is still happening -- i saw the desktop refresh and the icons reverted back right before my eyes. what the hell is going on here?

I'm having this same issue. Not with the icons themselves, but with their names... ie. "My Computer" renamed to "System" and "Recycle Bin" renamed to "Trash". Both seem to be occasionally resetting themselves to their default names.

I've tried changing them both via the standard right click rename, and thru Xteq, but neither seems to hold for long.

I too am running on an nvidia card, but I would guess that's not the problem.

(This never was a problem in Win2k, from which I recently switched).
