XP MCE OEM question

Well last I heard, XP OEM defines a new motherboard as a new computer.

So if my mobo dies, can I put in a replacement of the same type? And are there any other hardware changes that violate the license?

You can call and reactivate if there is a need after doing a replacement. The MB does not have to be the same type. After many builds/repairs, MS has never denied reactivation in my experience. MS just wants you to have one license per OPERATING machine.

True......but read my next reply.

Yes, or an equivalent. However if you are simply replacing the motherboard to upgrade your system that is violating the EULA and it's no different than installing OEM XP on multiple computers. Sure you can still phone in the activation if you violate the EULA, but it all boils down to your morals.

And are there any other hardware changes that violate the license?
No.
