XP MCE: How many changes before key is no longer valid?

Well I do not want to activate my MCE 2005 yet because I know that in the VERY NEAR future, I will be making some major changes. Most of the changes I have already made, but what I will be doing soon would be changing processors and adding RAM. Would going from my 1.2G Duron loaner to a 2600+ Athlon XP or adding RAM invalidate my key or anything like that?

I need to activate so I can download TweakMCE from MS's website. Is there any alternate way to download it?

o im 100% sure that changing ur processor would get u closer to having to reactivate it if not making u reactivate it. ive had to reactivate for less, much less

Crap... how about overclocking? What if you overclock and it thinks you have a different processor... is that enough?!

use device manager and uninstall your proc, shutdown and install the new proc and power up.

windows will not prompt a reactivate for ram replacement.

reactivate as many times as you need,BUT only use the software on one machine at a time.

Really? So if that is true, you could completely rebuild the machine from scratch and still use the same windows installation, I didn't think that was the case....

Also, my version is completely legal, it's just that if I ever do have to call, it is registered through a friend's work that buys I guess some type of package of keys or something like that and has no need for MCE being a businessplace and all. I don't know if me calling and not working for them could cause problems etc. Do you guys know what they ask you for when you call?

I just called ms for activation not even 5 minutes ago. They don't ask jack except the system ID key (could it be any longer???) and how many computers that copy of xp is installed on (one, duh!). I wouldn't sweat it regarding a processor swap anyways.

Yeah, a processor swap & RAM upgrade is fairly unlikely to trigger a reactivation. That with a network card address might though, for example.
