XP: Manually config COM port for serial communications

I have win xp pro sp2

I have 1 onboard serial port COM1. I installed a PCI serial card. COM3 and COM4.

There is no settings and the device manager will not let me manually configure the IRQ.

I need to have COM1 - onboard and COM2 the PCI card.

Any suggestions?

I will have to check - I didn't think BIOS would have control over the PCI COM ports?

No, but if you assign the onboard ports to COM1 and COM3, Windows might designate the PCI ports COM2 and COM4.

BIOS didn't help. I installed another version of the driver and it added options to change COM port. That did the trick. for search engine people the card is StarTech PCI 16C550 Serial I/O Interface Card.

thanks for the help everyone.

Ummmm.... COM ports are not about to be gotten rid of.

Physical serial ports, perhaps, but there are still tons of devices that use them, so it'll be a while before they are gone.
