xp-m vs xp for video encoding

just about to help a friend build a rig. just wondering about a couple of things...

+ whats a better choice for the chipset, xp-m (ie 2400+ 35w) or xp (ie 2500+)?

+ is the SLK3700AMB good enough as far as power?

+ is the NF-S mobo good for OCing for both? or is there a better one...?

+ corsair value ram good enough (2x512mb)?

+ which HSF combo?

What does he need and what does he have?
Ideally, an Athlon-64 or P4 woul dbe best, depending on what he can re use.

performance wise at the same speed, the xp-m and xp will perform exactly the same. only difference is that you can overclock the xp-m further, but thats about it.

The mobile is the much better choice

With a 350 watts psu it's got more than enough power.

The best you can buy for overclocking is without a doubt the DFI INFINITY NFII ULTRA.

Yes that ram will be fine.

+ which HSF combo?

I like the Zalman 7000.


As as far as encoding there is no difference between the 2 chips at same speed,but with the mobile you will get a higher overclock.

For cheap video encoding, get a dual proc MB for cheap off ebay and stick in 2 xp-m's.
