I should hopefully soon be in the possession of a mobile barton 2500+ to slot in place of my AUIHB 2100+ XP.
Apparantly this cpu has been able to get to 2.5GHz.

What i want to know is:

Do i need to update the bios for my board to be able to recognise the XP-M CPU?
Do i have to manually set the stock Vcore correctly or will the 1007 bios/board so this automatically?
Should i expect to be able to get from 11x166 [2500+] to 11x200 at stock vcore and if not what juice should i expect to give this beast to run at 3200+ speeds?
(what is stock vcore for this cpu anyway?!)

Thanks

2100+ AUIHB @ 12X166; stock Vcore; Thermaltake Silentboost HSF; A7N8X-del rev 2.0; Bios 1007; TwinMos BH5 3200 1gb; Rad 9500Pro; Enermax 353W PSU; 160Gb Seagate Baracudda

If it's a ver 2.xx, I had the same MOBO about a year ago, and loved it. I would go ahead and flash to 1010 bios before you install the new CPU. Normally, I wouldn't flash unless I had an issue with a current bios. But it may be in your best interest to flash to the lastest bios for FULL CPU support. XP-M's have strange multi/FSB combos.

As far as OCing the XP-M. I don't know. I've never owned an "M". My locked-multi-2500+ XP did 218X11 (2.4ghz) @ 1.75vCore on my A7N8X with the help of an HHC CoolerMaster all copper HSF. Your "M" should be good for 200X11 at stock vCore, or at least something close to stock.

Oh, BTW. I also had a 9500pro. Well I guess I still have it. It's in my 7-year-old's computer plugged into the ole' A7N8X. We can get 325/350 out of it. This one has 3.0ns RAM, but I've seen them with 3.3ns that top out at ~300 for the RAM. It's good enough to play Star Wars Legos and MAME.

i'm confused.
I thought bios 1008 was the highest/last for the A7N8X-D VER 2.0; I thought the 1010 bios was for the A7N8X E deluxe?

okay, apologies for the simpleton questions but i have been away from this stuff for far too long!

Currently I am running fine with the official 1007 bios. My setup likes this one, hence saw no need to update to 1008; i vaguely recall i had to play around with various bioses in the past due to a problem.

SO...am i correct in assuming that i can drop in the XP-M 2500+ with no problems other than "unknown cpu" in the POST screen?

IIRC stock for this cpu is 1.45 which is lower than the mobo supports so i could possibly stick it at 1.55 [or whatever the lowest is].......

I have seen mentions of modded bioses, be they by "trats", "red dwarf" or "demolous" uber bioses with the name update [ie POST reads Athlon XP-M" and some other tweaks but it brings me out in a cold sweat as i don't understand the references to romsips, CPC on/off and 2T and 1T that the various modded-bios-flavours refer to.

If anyone can clarify or link to clarifications i would greatly appreciate so that i can at least mame a [semi-] informed choice about the modded bios....

On my nf2 mobo's they show up as 600mhz cpu's (FSB 100 x 6 multi). Just gotta go into BIOS and set the FSB and multi. No biggie.

Yeah, s/b no problems at 1.55vcore. Mine's in that neigborhood too. Temps are high 30s or low 40's. I don't need this much vcore to run at the speed I keep, but no biggie.

Yeah, I think you'll be able to hit 166 x 11 at stock vcore if you could get down there.

As far as modded BIOS that recognizes the mobiles, I don't think it's important in the least. I'm gonna go into BIOS to set the FSB, multi and vcore myself anyway. I also don't care about the BIOS screen shows at bootup.
