XP losing taskbar icons when LAN card is installed

I tried three different cards, different slots with the same result. When you reboot some of the icons dissapear, such as the sound icon. If I disable or remove the card, the icons return. At least four different icons are affected....any ideas?

sounds like XP is hiding the applications. you can undue this option by going to the taskbar properties.

Already tried changing taskbar properties around with no change. Now these programs whose icons are missing are still running. Just the icon is missing. I remove the LAN card, they come back. Hard to figure!
