But I don't!

How do turn off this notification or how do I fix it.

I deleted all email from my inbox and it still says it.

Thanks.

Using Outlook 2003.

I belive those messages are from your Hotmail inbox. You probably binded your Windows user with your Passport account, so Windows automatically checks your hotmail inbox.

I have not used Hotmail for months and did no binding or whatever. This just started happening yesterday.

I seem to remember coming across a way to turn off this notification somehow in the past.

Seems odd.

Did you ever switch over from Outlook Express to something else? Maybe OLEXP is still checking your servers...

Maybe if you deleted unread messages, they are still showing up as unread, even though they are not in your inbox.

This isn't windows messaging service. It is either Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger...my guess is that it's Windows Messenger.

In later builds of v4.7, Windows Messenger changed its design: it will now run in the background as a process. There is no UI, no systray icon, etc. You have no idea that it's running. If either IM client was ever set to remember your IM logon password, then Windows Messenger will use it if it somehow got set to run when windows starts.

Launch the main UI, then click Tools->Options->Preferences and uncheck both "Run when Windows starts" and "Allow to run in the background".

However, Windows Messenger would need to have the Hotmail add-on installed in order to send you email alerts. So for this reason, it could possibly be MSN Messenger doing this, but at the very least, you should see a systray icon.

I use no messenger nor MSN anything and have no icons in the tray.

Also it always says '1 unread email message' regardless of the amount of emails I have anywhere. It never changes from one unread.

I fixed it!

I ran Tweak UI ( here) and this problem was listed under the repair tab.

Apparantly this is a Windows problem....though seemingly rare.

Well, this is totally new to me...what was the Windows problem that TweakUI repaired? And what was the program that was giving you these notifications?

Seriously, Ferocious, I'm curious about what the problem was. This would be a big help to know, considering the dozens of people who report similar problems monthly, but usually solve it using menus and options of an offending program instead of using an entirely different program...I haven't heard of this solution before.
