I need some help here guys... I'd rather not format and install another OS for the 3rd time today hehe... I want to give XP a chance.
Here's what happens... in Windows when I move the mouse around in very small movements it tracks fine... move it faster it tracks fine too... mouse accelleration is off and I'm using the latest mouseware drivers.
The problem is with games - namely quake 2 and quake 3. Whenever I'm in the game it's impossible to make fine movements... the mouse acts like a dirty balled mouse and just sits there then jerks around as I make bigger movements... when I move real fast it's smooth tho. Needless to say if I can't make precision small movements I can't play games.

Does anybody else have this same problem? I've tried the mouse on both the USB and PS2 ports (with 200 rate) and have had no success... is there a fix that I'm not finding using google?

Edit - Uninstalled the mouseware drivers and disabled fast initilization in xp and the problem went away... I knew it would BUT I need to be able to use my Thumb Button. Don't think I can do that without the mouseware drivers... :frown:

Hi,

I think the problem you were having was caused by the mouseware drivers. I personally HATE them as I have had nothing but problems with them. Try and see if you can manually install the mouse in xp as a mouse with a thumb button. I have a dual optical and xp automatically detected the thumb button.

Edited for stoopid spelling

Yeah the problem was with mouseware.. that's why I got rid of it.. I was hoping they had fixed that by now :(

Anyway what mouse driver are you using in XP that has a working thumb button? Let me know.. I'll give it a try.
I need this button since it's my walk backwards button. ;)

The only game I had a problem on with my logitec optical mouse was Counter Strike, the mouse lagged really bad. I find that using the USB to PS2 converter and jacking up the refresh rate of the mouse to 200 works really well. The mouseware drivers are no good.

There's a fix for the mouse acceleration problem that you're talking about in CS... it's a registry file that you merge. Fix.

Looks like I'm going back to win2k since I can't use my thumb button without mouseware 9.60 and can't use mouseware without the mouse not working in games... lol

Hmmmm no problems here in Q3 with my Logitech Optical Mouseman Wheel mouse,I`m also using WinXP and latest Logitech mouseware drivers,I`ve the acceleration on max and using it in USB mode.

You tried different surface for your optical mouse? I find it responds better with certain mouse pads and surfaces.

Adul I clean installed... I ALWAYS clean install my operating systems ;)
Right now I formatted and am using 98se... I guarantee you I'll be back in win2k by the end of the weekend hehe
Mem it's not the mouse pad(s) because I have a couple that I use... and it's perfectly fine in windows (any version) just not in the games in XP. I tried everything I could think of and decided I'll just wait a while longer heh.
I've now tried XP 3 or 4 times with 2 or 3 different versions of the mouseware drivers with the same results.
Oh well.
