This is driving me crazy - maybe you've seen this before. I have an Asus P4B533-V. I'm attempting to install Windows XP Pro and it locks up at 'Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration'. I have read that this generally means a hardware problem. I've also read that running the checked version of NT Workstation will tell you what hardware component it's looking at at the time and thus should tell you what component is locking up the install. I have XP advanced server checked version (MSDN), ran that but it locked immediately again before giving me any info.
I tried installing RedHat 7.2 and the installation terminated as well. It provided me with all kinds of info but I couldnt tell what was relevant and what wasn't. One of the messages was a 'signal 11 error'. From what I've read this means the app attempted to read from an invalid memory location, generally a hardware error - could be bad ram or cpu cache. Another message I read said that it was a bad CD drive.
I have removed my video card and sound card. Next thing I'm going to do is to try another hard drive - however, I dont have another CPU or DIMM to try to see if that the prob. Anyone have any other hints?
